I think it's quite possible coil itself got grounded. Make shure that it's not a wires to it - they can also loose connection / became grounded depending of their position...

Pretty weird. Not even sure how you were able to figure out unmounting the coil would make it run.

Is it just unmounting the coil or the coil and ICM together? Sounds like there might be a short to ground in one of those components.

well the wire going from the coil to the opti is all corroded from the old coil....i cant buy a new one without buying a whole kit of wires cause when i got my tune up they never changed the coil wire...think that would do it?

well i replaced the coil cause the old one was corroded so when it didnt start we just plugged in the old coil without unmounting the new one and it started right up. so then we mounted the old one again and again it wouldnt start. the whole thing when we took it off we took of the plate behind it as well is that the ICM?

So did the old coil work when it was mounted?

You can buy just the coil wire from the dealer or an AC-Delco supplier, but it won't be cheap.

I am not sure if the coil wire could be an issue, but my mindset is that if I see something that looks like it could be a problem, I eliminate it as a factor.

my buddy seems to think the "sucking" sound coming from the throttle body is the timing....think the timing could have been set out of wack somehow well he was doing the waterpump?

You can't alter the timing by changing the water pump. Now, if the optispark got soaked with coolant, that could make it run funny. However it would not clear up by unmounting the coil.
