Granatelli MAF Garbage?

Does anyone have anything positive to say about the Granatelli MAFs? or any aftermarket MAF?

Cool

Hi, I just removed the screen from my stock one, and cleaned it, put it in and i noticed the throttle response was better, and ran smoother. Just letting you what worked for me.Ray

Those would probably be in the minority. MAF descreening is also a sore subject with a lot of people. Most tuners like a non-molested stock MAF for tuning purposes, because it has reliable/predictable output.

As I recall, MAFs that claim HP gains have a spotty record and I think most came out before the onset of readily available computer programming (IMHO is the better way to accomplish changes).

Mine worked since the day I got it back in 99 or whenever it was and I only bought it because it was bigger than stock and I wanted a bigger inlet for the blower because it was on the suck side. I doubt it would have made more power in a NA engine and I think that's a bad reason to buy one. I interchanged it with the screened stock one a bunch of times since then to see if idle quality and normal driving was affected and I couldn't tell a difference - BLMs and all that stuff seemed the same as well. So it isn't garbage but I don't know if it would benefit a NA engine - mods like that and the IAT relocation aren't a good way to get power if someone is hoping for a recalibration to leaner mixture and more grunt in the LT1 fat spot. A good tune will usually get you there.

The Granatelli might result in more power by missreporting airflow to trick the pcm into leaning out overly rich factory wide open throttle tuning. You could pay $300+ for a hit and miss MAF or you could spend half that, get the fueling corrected, the spark optomized so on and soforth. Really a poor idea.
