got an SES light while driving after removing EGR on OBD1??? wtf?

i left the solinoid in place, capped the vacuum port on the side of the intake, capped the EGR spots on the back of the intake manifold... and now driving the next day i get an SES light. car seems fine, still is fast, idles better than ever (stupid EGR) but its got that blinding SES light now...

i thought with OBD1 you didn't have to worry about throwing SES's when removing EGR?

I think the problem is that you capped the port on the manifold--(I read your other post so I know you didn't have much of a choice.) Most people leave that line in place when they do the EGR delete. Hopefully someone with a bit more technical knowledge will chime in...

You have to disable the EGR codes from the PCM for this to work properly. Capping both holes will not be a problem, as long as codes are disabled. Just did the same thing on a friend's 95 and it worked great, no SES.

Have you verified that the SES light is for the EGR?

As I recall, you said you left the harness connected to the solenoid. That would be one code if it was not connected.

Then there is another code for a missing EGR valve. The OBD-I test isn't as sensitive as the OBD-II test, but it is still done, and on rare occasions will set a code in OBD-I.

Get the EXACT code with a scan.

I got the same situation. EGR delete about a month ago when headers went in my 93Z28. Today the SES light came on. I scanned it and got a code 32 which is EGR, circuit 1 of 2. HELP!
