Got a problem
Got a problem
Sorry this is going to be a little bit of a long story...
Recently at a HPDE, my recently head/cammed LT1 went down. It has 54K miles on it, and I had the head and cam work done by a shop. I put about 500 miles on it before the track day and changed the oil before the track day with Mobil 1. I barely ran the car at the track, I spent about 20min's following a 73 vette that wouldn't let me pass and never reached more then 90 mph where I saw 135 last season. After he pitted I got 4 pretty hard laps before I brought it in to cool down but I still was only running probably 75% of my normal driving level because I was getting use to the motor and new tires. The car started to make a knocking sound on the next warm up lap about 1 hour after the first session. I pitted and had it trailered back to the shop where the work was done. They have torn into the engine, it's not all the way torn down but they believe it is a connecting rod bearing. He thinks I lost oil pressure during a turn because of oil moving around. I had no problems last year. I had oil pressure afterwards for sure, I don't think I ever lost pressure but I can't be sure. To me it just seems to coincidental that this problem showed up after the head/cam work. He said I should have had a road race pan on this car, but most ever car up there is just a street car. Does this happen? Who's fault is this? Could this be a spun cam bearing? It just sucks after putting all this money in. Let me know your opinions.
Thanks
