got a code today, RANDOM MISFIRE...

hotcam has been in the car for a few days now, and i got a code for a random misfire, but the car is running fine and not misfireing at all, i do still have to get it tuned for the hotcam but i was thinking maybe its the crank sensor not reading something correctly, anyone have any ideas??

I had the same problem, my mechanic told me to get the idle raised a little bit and the problem went away, when it was cold out it ran rough and gave me the flashing SES, random multiple misfire, im checking my coil and opti now..

Check to make sure all your plug wires are on tight. After that, if you can clear the codes, do it. If your ses comes back on, you know you have to check more, like spark plugs, rotor, etc...most likely its an ignition problem.

If you just changed plugs and its throwing that code, chances are the plugs arent gapped right......

and no, dont think the crank sensor would cause it, as it has its own code to throw when its bad

It never hurts to check the wires, the plugs towards the firewall can be a pain to get on there snug and can vibrate free during driving.

the optisparks internal cam sensor would be the one to report a misfire code. but with that cam, i wouldnt be surprised if that code would pop up. the pcm is sensitive to little bumps in the engine and is ready to throw that code out, more likely at a rough idle(like an aftermarket cam would provide). program your pcm for that cam first. it should help.
