just want a smooth idle

the stock 350 crank was trashed and the pistons and rods has 130,000 on them, so I rebuilt the motor with the 383 internals instead, thought the hot cam would be "mild" enough in a 383 but it is not for me, want a almost factory idle, not interested in the loping and surging, Dont get me wrong soon as you pull away from a stop it has power and has it to 6200, just want a smoother idle, not happy with the lope, chop, surge.

then why not use a ....

stock cam with 1.6 rockers?? It would accomplish the same thing wouldn't it? If the 383 would of been higher than a 350 rebuild I would not have done it, I would of just went stock. But I feel I got a good deal on the 383 internals.

I'll check with Bret when he gets back from racing today.

Because you have to buy a cam anyway, a Comp 258HR-12 might work well. Let you know later, if you wish.

look at some cames that favor, more exhaust duration something like the crane 210/224 on a 114 that should make tones of torque and idel well. Lunati and Crane make some good less loppy cames. Try to find something around thos specs on a 114 or higher and it should do as you like.

I admire your courage for posting this on this board. Most everyone on here has the idea that you need a big cam and lots of lift to make power, well i guss they havent seen too many flow charts for stock heads.

anyway your set up with the RIGHT cam should make a ton of torque, not need a anything bigger then a vett converter and drive nice.

I really don't think you should have surge though. That really gets me. You definately could not notcie surge in my car with my 3k stall and 4l60e. Heck...I didn't really have surge with my m6 even. Every car is different I guess.

creeping off a stop it will surge back and forth, the last program...

pcmforless.com did was stock 350 with a idle bump, this cam is a 112 lsa and will lope and I guess surge too. Not for me.

What about the cc304? 210 / 220, .500 / .510 114 LSA. Very tame cam (probably won't even be able to tell the car is cammed), but still an improvment over the stocker.

As for no headers, at least look into some Edelbrocks.. those manifolds are going to choke the hell out of any cam - even the stocker.

I dont want headers as stated above,

the manifolds are staying and stock y pipe. Yes I am looking at the cc304. How about the comp cams 276/290 510/ 510 on a 114 still?

Why are you trying to mod this car in the first place? Sounds like you want a stock slow car! With the mods you are doing you can say "i have the slowest 383 lt1 ever made". Sounds like you have a bone stock exhaust and you are saying that the lope is bothering you? Maybe you should sell the car and GET a cadillac.
