got a 383 and a hotcam
already at 850rpm in drive
per pcmforless.com it is just a surging idle in drive I dont care for. I dont want headers or aftermarket mufflers and no head work done. Has 30 pound injectors.
my car idles @950-1000 rpm, with my sig cam...now, that's a pretty nice-sized cam, so if ya go with something like that, raise your idle to ~1050, and you'll do well.
oh yeah, why in the world would you put stock heads on a 383? why dont you keep it a 350 and port your HEADS?? a 383 needs to breathe, and with stock heads, it wont get to do that...just my $.02

It was just as cheap to go 383 vs 350.
I spent 130.00 for the crank, 184.00 for the pistons, and 244.00 for the I beam rods, Went with the hotcam but dont like it, I want like a stock idle quality, no loping or high idle, want it just like stock but 383, so what cam? It has 10.9:1 compression too. I dont like a high idle that the car wants to pull through lights, hard on the brakes, want it to idle like stock, I heard of a LT-1 Cadillac Cam.. Heard of this??

lmao @ a stroker with a stock cam!! that's friggin hillarious...well, at least you'd be "different" than everyone else...
yes cleaned the MAF etc etc...
have a scanner and everything is good. The hot cam is Lopey, I know several people with them including myself. And they all surge some it seems.
Why don't you go with the lingenfelter 74211 cam? It has a pretty smooth idle in a 350, in a 383 should be what your looking for. Stock cam is a waste of time for a 383. Bigger engine has to breath otherwise it will run like ****, even in everyday driving. Shortcuts will cost you in the long run. just my .02 cents.
Do you still have the stock cam? You could always put that back in and your idle should be stock. However, there are some cams between stock and HotCam with low overlap which should help you get some of the 383 potential.
IMO, just rebuilding to a 383 wasn't a bad idea. You got more cubes and more compression, so with stock cam the extra torque will feel good. If you don't go for at least a cat back, more rpm and high end hp aren't going to happen. Low and mid torque will happen though.
Assuming you started with a Camaro LT1, the Caprice/Impala LT1 cam is a touch milder. I think that's the same cam used in the Cadillac version of the B-body. IMO, that's not quite enough. F-bod LT1 cam would be a first choice.
BTW, who suggested the HotCam during your rebuild?
My $.02
