good cheap intake?

Hi, i have a 94 z28 stock, i want to make a cheap good cold air intake for it, if i just took off the air box and ran 3 inch pvc out and put a K and N filter on it how much more HP would that give me? or if theres a better way to make my own induction please let me know, thanks!

there's one way, i didn't read it and i can't remember how it goes though
i made mine (same setup as lt1 just on the other side of the engine bay) out of pvc pipes and an open k/n filter
just siliconed up the joints and voila, there you have it
you picked a good method imo, **i** think it's better than spending 100+$ to buy one, but that's just me
as for hp, hmm...5-7 i guess, just a guess

o, just saw your wanting to do pvc pipe already, you'll have to check out the elbow though, i don't think it's 3 inches, but i might be wrong
if you're looking for a k/n filter, there's a 'ricer' huge one, but it does the same thing, it is part # re-0810 or something like that
i'll look it up if it's not right
o, and there's no better induction method other than ram air (that only advantage is that it pulls in cold ambient air from outside instead of air from under the hood- it does NOT ram air into the engine at car speeds, just to clarify)
i fear i may have started a whole argument though with that point

I made mine using a 3" Fernco rubber tube and 3" Fernco 90* rubber bend, both made for PVC plumbing, from Home Depot and a cone filter then 2 sections of 3" pipe to connect them together. I used some extra 3" aluminumized exhaust piping and polished it for the piece between the straight rubber piece and the 90* bend. I like it, I son't have pics of it yet. Total cost, about $40-45
