What aftermarket set are you refering too? the Hot cam kit claims that you just have to push the dowel pin in the front of the cam in further for pre-95 LT1s to make them work. Mine I believe is out of a 94 Firebird.

Also, I decided to go with a new timing set. I can get a Cloyes 3-piece iron timing set for $88.00 through my local parts warehouse. That isnt too much for some extra insurance.

If you have a 94, then you can go with the cloyes double roller chain from combination for $80, and the EX components for $70. If you have a 95+, then you can either do the stock replacement, or the LT4 extreme duty timing set, which is 279.99. I just received my hot cam yesterday, and i just ordered the stock replacement. The spec sheet that came with the cam says its good to 5500 rpms, which is the stated powerband for the hot cam. Did you order it already? Jason Cromer has it for 489. http://samtaylor.com/html/parts.html If you go with the stock replacement, i suggest you order from him, its pretty cheap...~$70
