Good cam for an otherwise stock LT1?

Ive got my LT1 on an engine stand right now so it is the best time to mess with it I figure. What would be a good cam to go with for an otherwise stock LT1. Also, can I keep running my stock lifters that have about 70K on them?

HOT cam or CC305, both with 1.6 roller rockers and new valve springs. OK to re-use the lifters if they are not damaged.

You can get the LT4 Hot Cam setup through www.gmpartsdirect.com for about $505 delivered. That's a very reasonable price.

I've got the Hot Cam setup and I love it. I've never heard of anyone with it that hasn't liked it.

As long as you have it on a stand, why not go with new lifters, just for insurance. Also, if you plan on going with a cam, be sure and get a good spring. So if you have the heads off or can get at them easily, you might consider having the seats reamed at bit to accommodate a larger spring if desired, otherwise if you decide on a larger cam requiring larger spring you won't have to remove the heads for the modification.

And by the by. Whenever you have the engine out, it is really the best time to "take care of business" unless you just don't have the $ to do heads, splayed mains, etc. And don't forget to check any clearance problems you might have with hoses so that if you decide to go with headers, that they will "clearly" be out of the way of the the headers. Once the engine is back in it's hole, those things are really hard to get at.JMHO

I would love to go through and asses more things that I want changed, but this is going to be in the car I drive more often and I am trying to keep the budget to a minimum. In a year or two I am going to step it up to 396 inches so the heads will get redone then for sure, I was just trying to get some lower budget horses to drive on for 40-50K miles. As far as the springs, I was planning on upgrading them also and running 1.6 rockers.

i just bought the kit in the group purchase from Combination Motorsports today. I got the compcams extreme 218/224 112lsa cam and from what i've found from this website, it is a good cam for stock heads. for $627 i got the cam, rockers, springs, retainers, ect and the gasket set. I don't think you can beat that price for what you're getting. Although, i have to admit i was planning on buying a 'baby cam' (crane 210/224) before i found this deal.

no lifters. i hear you don't NEED to replace them. I guess when i tear into it i will check to see if they are still in good shape. if so i'll just run the original lifters. i'm trying to decide whether or not to buy a new timing chain set too...

You didn't mention what year your lt-1 is? The aftermarket sets are only for the 95+ lt-1. They will not work with the pre-95 if you havent converted to a vented opti.
