is this good for 420 hp? what ya think
just wondering what the new combo is capable of..
yes i have video of it ideling but waiting on a friend to email it to me. cmotorsports said 420-430 at the wheels with a dyno tune....what ya think?
97 z28 6 speed. stock rear end ( ya i know.. ) pretty stock suspension, i have an eiback pro kit
LOWER END
block bored 40 over
forged scat steel billet crank
forged j&e Pistons 10.5:1
forged 6" eagle h beam rods
studded mains
UPPER END
LE2 heads (mid 270's)
comp 1.6 rockers, hardened pushrods, comp r lifters, comp 985 springs
236/245 .576/.579 lift 111lsa
cam was matched to head flow #'s
EXHAUST
Hooker super comp longtubes
hooker off road y pipe
Borla Cat Back
MISC
!egr, !air, !asr, !air conditioning.
slp cold air, descreened maf, bbk 58mm throttle body, 30# injectors, spec stage 3 clutch taylor wires, . pretty much every bolt on.
what can i expect hp wise, and 1/4 mile? plan on beefin up the rear. and i already have slicks.
car ran mid 12's last summer w/ same heads, le1 cam, STOCK lower end, and a 1.9 60 ft.
just got it runnin a week ago, have about 100 miles on it so far.

My cam specs are very similar to your's.. But I use stage 3 heads.. Mine is: 383cid (11:1 CR) AFR 210cc competition and very similar camshaft specs ,and see ~450rwhp (~470rwhp with carbon fiber driveshaft)..

well u have a lil higher cr + the more cubes. i was thinking 430 would be a bit high, but 420 i was really hoping for.. i'm guessing u had that dynotuned? i didn't know carbon fiber driveshafts helped that much..might look into that.

You will definitaly see 420rwhp.. Carbon Fiber drive shafts are very expensive (750$) but for high horsepower engines they work great!! They give %5 rwhp that you got.. i.e: 420/100 x 5= 21 420+21=441rwhp by using CF drive shaft!!!

that's just marketing bs, you will not gain 5% to the wheels from a carbon fiber driveshaft, just like how you get 20hp from a k&n filter. Trust me your driveshaft doesn't even account for 5% of drivetrain loss so there's no way it will make you gain 5% power, you'd see no more than 1% gain going to a cf driveshaft.

And with Aluminum driveshaft will gain %0.05hp?? I think you are talking about aluminum DS.. Maybe not %5 ,but I believe %3-4.. I will let you know when I go to dyno..

Re: is this good for 420 hp? what ya think
going from the stock steel to an aluminum driveshaft will get your between 1-2 hp at the wheels, and thats around a 6lb difference, there's only around around a 3lb difference between carbon fiber driveshaft and an aluminum. Of course weight isn't the only factor for driveshaft loss, it's where the weight is placed. A larger diameter driveshaft will have more rotational inertia and will take more power to accelerate than a smaller diameter driveshaft. Personally i wouldn't waste my money on one, money could be better spend elsewhere.

did cmotorsports grind the cam for you. i think your looking at the 400 to 405 range (personally but what do i know) i wonder why they used a 111 and not a 109 or in that neighnor hood.
what did they say it would spin up to. im guessing about 6600. depending on the ramp design, and what did the lower lift numbers look like, from 200 to 500?
maybe im bored and im asking to many questions.
i hope you hit 420, that would be cool

Re: is this good for 420 hp? what ya think
I'd look at switching your PCM to OBDI with your combination. Mine is somewhat similar (wilder cam) and the OBDII just could not control the engine above 6k RPM. We chased what we thought was a bad cam, bad springs, a bad PCM, and bad injectors only to have the miss/power drop cured by the change to OBDI.
