Going to replace oil pan gasket this week, any suggestions ?
WHOA! JUST THOUGHT OF THIS!
if you do go the route of jacking up the motor-
DONT REACH INSIDE THE OIL PAN for anything! (ie dropped gasket (or anything), get around oil pan- i dont know)
A board member was helpin me with my oil pump swap and pointe this out to me.
if the block thats supporting your motor(i assume your going to lift it fromthe harm balancer) slips (we used wood) that motor is taking your hand.
slim chance-
but if it saves one person from losing their arm, its well worth it.
good luck

Because 9 times out of 10 when you post crap over here in LT1 Tech, it's just a waste of bandwidth. You have little if any real knowledge of automobiles and it is obvious everytime you post.
You have one car that you have ever worked on yourself, probably haven't even done most of the work yourself and you go around thinking you are so friggin' brilliant or helpful.
Bottom line is, you have almost ZERO REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE! I could write down all the automotive work you have ever done on a paper match, and that would be an in-depth study.
You are what people call a blow hard, you go around repeating what other people say without hardly any experience of your own to back it up. The sad part is, is that you are getting better at fooling people the more you are around here. You may have some fooled, but not me.
Now I realize you are just trying to be helpful, and that's good, because that's what this board is about. But, think twice before you go posting info or advice to people that you make up or pull out of your ***, because that's how BS information gets spread around here.
Also, I will not respond again to this thread. I don't care how mad you are. What I have said here is true, and there are MANY others on this board that agree with me.

Where in TX are you? If you are close to Austin are, I will come finish it up for ya. I did mine about a month ago after my cam install. Took me a whopping 30 minutes after dropping Y pipe. You don't need to raise the engine. Just slide the new gasket between the frame and bottom of oil pan into place, almost in place but outside of the pan rails. Since the half moon shape part of the gasket is moveable, stretch 1 side of the gasket around edge of pan rail. Now, you should have one side (passanger or driver, doesn't matter) in right and other side still underneath pan rail. Now pull other side over pan rail and you're done. I would put a little RTV on the half circle parts of the gaskets between rearmain seal and pan and also on front between timing cover and pan. Bolt the pan on, hook up starter, connect Y pipe, and you're done. LMK if you need any help,
Kyle
