I always heard you shouldn't do this. Something about breaking something loose (like some dirt) that isn't bothering anything and it clogging up an oil passage. Could lead to possible engine failure. I can't remember where I read that, but it does make sense.

are you trying to cure a problem? or create one?.....wanna keep an engine clean, once a year use a very lightweight motoroil(mobil 1syn 0w5 is perfect) if you have a problem?, add a quart of marvel mystery oil in place of a quart of 0w5,that should clean the rings and lifters out nicely,THIS REALLY WORKS!

It's true, that's why Auto-rx is safe, since it slowly dissolves the sludge and liquifies it, and carries it safely to the filter.

And to the person who suggested the thin 0w5 oil, how is that going to clean anything? Unless the oil has tons of detergents in it or more esters in the base oil, I can't see how that particular oil is going to all of a sudden make this engine sparkling clean inside.

What do you believe Marvel is comprised of? Hint, check Doc's post. It's alot cheaper as well.

People who do engine work RAVE about ATF for cleaning piston walls and such, and removing stuff that nothing else will. Its a 10 weight oil with super detergent qualities.

People I know from the oil message board all strictly warn against running tranny fluid in your engine. It's not a safe practice.

All kinds of possible reasons for that, how old are they, yada yada. Many of the older folks remember the time when there was no detergent in oil, when detergent oils came out all kinds of problems arose and it was labled a bad deal.

ATF is just 10 weight oil with extreme detergent qualities.

Dr.Mudge, a lot of the people on the oil message board are pretty smart, many of them do oil analysis interpretation, many of them are lubrication specialists, we're not talking about your average person here. We're talking people who are in the oil industry for their living, so they know what they are talking about.

I would go with the Auto-RX guys. I have seen oil analysis results after its use and some pics before and after. Looks good to me. So good in fact that I am going to seafoam my top end this spring, then do a cleaning of the bottom end with Auto-RX...

Then you woulden't want me to give you the details. It would be better for you to research yourself.
