Going on a diet......

My car that is. I really have no clue as to what I can keep and what I can take off. Everything that comes off will be for sale obviously. Can you guys help me out here? The car will be a track car for the most part, so carpet and ac isn't a big deal. Can anyone help out?

what do you mean you don't know what..

its what you can deal with. strip the whole thing, put a tach in it, a water temp and oil pressure. one seat. thats all you need.

everything out of the engine bay cept the motor and wireing. no PS, no AC, etc.

How much lighter would this actually make my car? And what kind of difference would this make in et times. Since my car is stock. I'm considering all options. Thanks

A complete strip as Jordon was talking about would save a substantial amount of weight. You can always do the spare tire/jack, rear seats, passenger seat, tubular K-member, lightweight drag wheels, etc. etc. It is really like said above, what can you live without.

Every hundred pounds you shed is 1/10th of a second in the quarter.

There are a number of sites that list in painful detail every possible piece that can be removed and what they weigh. One good one is a thread on LS1tech.com. . Might want to look that one over and see what you can live without.

One thing to keep in mind is how you plan to race the car. Some classes and events require certain items to be intact... the GM High Tech magazine EFI shootouts, for example, require full interior, full carpeting and two matching front seats. Back seat can be removed.

My Formula weighed 3,760# with me (180#) in it, and that was without the A/C and with lightweight drag wheels/tires. I hope I have it down to 3,500# by now, but haven't weighed it. The weight reduction fanatics can get close to 3,000#. I recently saw a post on Drag Racing where a guy claimed 2,875#.

I'll check that link out. I really don't care about the GMHTTP shootout races. This is all for my personal enjoyment. I'm thinking I might just do the weight removal in stages. And see how iy goes from there.
