to go w/ TransGo or something else...or nothin at all

here lately i have been reading a couple threads about people warning not to use transgo shift kits and how they damage the tranny [frank (12scndz) told me every trans hes torn down that had a transgo in it was burnt all up], but i was under the impression that the TransGo unit was the best out there. it seems to be the most popular among fellow board members?...maybe everyone just hasnt started to see the symptoms yet (knock on wood). is it good or bad? what about the B&M transpak, any comments on it?

I can't comment on the TansGo, but I've read numerous posts by people with the B&M Transpak that say stay away from it.

Another vote to stay away from the B&M transpack . I had that in for about a month, dynoed my car and found out 3rd gear was slipping. Could have been a coincidence. But might not have! Doesn't it just increase the line pressure? I don't think that's good on a stock tranny!

i thought it was the B&M shiftplus thingy (electronic shift kit) that only increases line pressure?

I respect 12scndZ and think he builds awesome trannies.
Having said that, I disagree with him on the Trans Go thing.
I had one in my old tranny at about 40k and it went belly up at around 125k or so.
New tranny I have has a Trans Go in now and its working very well.
I don,t see the problem if its installed correctly, the guy who put the one in my old tranny did not even do it right according to my new tranny builder and that tranny still lasted 80k after the install.
Time will tell with my new trans but I have not had any catastrophic failures yet, unless you count my old trans going at 125k. I hope all my trans last that long.
Just my expierences so far.

It all depends on how the user drives the car also!!If you beat on it,wether or not the transgo is installed, your going to kill the tranny anyway. The thinking behind it is that "I have the transgo shift installed and I can tear the **** outta it cuz now it's bullet proof.....WRONG!!!!You still need to beware that beating on something is going to destroy it.

I've got a TransGo in mine, and I've got no complaints. I heard with the converter, it'd soften up shifts a bunch, so I put in the kit to even things out. It shifts a bit harder than stock, but I left line firmness at stock levels when I did programming.

Hopefully you're putting the Trans-Go kit in your Maxima, because it'll destroy your 4L60E.

Let's start a poll. How many have T-G kits in anything running in the 10's?...Or even low 11's? How long has it been in there (WITHOUT ANY EXTRA WORK BEING DONE TO THE TRANSMISSION)
I've been building racing 4L60E's since there inception in 1994. They came out in 1993, but we didn't see many racing TRUCKS. Pay attention everyone....I've NEVER taken apart a transmission with a T-G kit in it that didn't have a burnt 2-4 band and burnt 3-4 clutches.
Many ask what "kits" I use. Simply put, I don't. I source GOOD parts from many different suppliers. A real transmission builder would never have the need to use a Trans-Go (or any other) shift kit in a 700/4L60E.
Does how I build them work? Ask Dirk (RACINLT1). I built his 4L60E 2 1/2 years ago. His last 6 runs have all been 11.0's @ 122-124 MPH. We haven't even changed the fluid in his car in over 2 years. It's lived the past 2 1/2 years in the low 11 second zone with 150 HP (now 175) shot of nitrous being dumped through it. A conservative guess would be it has somewhere near 200 quarter mile passes on it. Try this with a 4L60E with a T-G kit in it, and see how long before you end up with a bunch of toasted transmission parts.

Ok Frank, time to school me on the reason a Trans Go is so bad.
I had one in my last tranny and it lasted 80k after the install (a bad install I have been told). Local tranny builder in town builds killer 700R4s and 4L60Es, he built mine and a BUNCH of others here in town, he uses Trans Go shift kits in these trannies and they are not blowing up all over town.

Just curious, what exactly do you see as the problem with these kits? and what is your solution to the soft shift after TC install?
What did you use in RacinLT1s tranny build?

You,who has been working with the 4l60e for 9 yrs. or transfix leo who has been under,over,in-out of trannies for twice-three time as many yrs.

As I stated earlier, how many of these trannies that you've seen have been totally beat on???Prolly all of them. They are in a sports car, they will get burnt up.i purchased my 95Z three yrs ago with 49k miles, drove it for 2 months about a 1k miles and the tranny and rear let go same time.Inspection showed burnt clutch paks and no aftermarket tinkering done.

So that means the car was beat the **** out of!!It will only last as long as it can with constant abuse,I don't care if you built with or without a TG!!!
