I bought my cam from:
Jason Cromer: 877-726-8295 or 850-243-8826 (direct parts dept ph #)
email: gmparts@samtaylor.com
Sam Taylor Buick/Cadillac Ft. Walton Beach, FL
$209.00
* Crane Cam 109841 grind # HR-296-2S-12 IG (CAM) $209.00 from Jason
* KM# 16214681 $29.95 from Jason - 96 Corvette 5.7 L w/55 LT4 Knock Sensor
* Crane Kit #10308-1 (SPRING KIT)

Yes Summit sells CompRs...but don't get caught up in one particular name brand, Morel & a couple other manufacturers build lifters for most of the name brands out there. I guess after killing one of my CompRs with 1.7s and these monster Crower springs I'm dissapointed in Comp...but they sell good stuff, just saying check out your other options, Jessel, Crane, etc etc.

I'd recommend 1.6 RRs, I ran 1.7 but I'm not the conservative type, that's not a good thing necessarily, it's my everyday driver.

I agree with all of this with maybe the exception of the spring kit. The kit comes with seats that are actually shims, which seemed a little too thin for my tastes. I used the same springs that are in the kit, (99893), but the following Comp Cam Parts for retainers, locks and seats:

611-16 10 Degree Locks
740-16 Retainers
4770-16 Spring Locators

I know lots of guys have had no problems with the 10308-1 kit, I wanted 10 degree locks and locators to ensure that I didn't have any spring "walk". Just my .015$.

Good advice, I shared my old parts list but should have mentioned that I changed a lot recently by choice after learning more...well that and breaking ****e too!

I know have some big hoss retainers & 10 deg locks, and this should hold me over till my AFR heads get here in Oct and I get my solid roller cam in.

my GM-847 will then be FOR SALE , so stay tuned anyone that's looking for this cam...

Re: GM847 owners inside

I am semi-sure this is the parts list...

Comp Cams components
10* locks $25
Retainers $59.99
Spring locaters $39.99
Comp "R" Lifters 241.69
1-piece chromaly pushrods price?!?
Crane Cams components
99893 valvesprings $241.69
Summit Racing components
1.6 ratio roller rockers narrow body 3/8" stud $259.99
Gm Performance Parts Components
Gm 847 Camshaft 234/242 duration 1/2 off list (discount) ~$150
PaceSetter Components
Quick-trip Longtube Headers and y-pipe ~$550
Hooker components
Hooker Cat-back Exhaust $285.95

Only thing with this parts list, I am unsure as to which pushrods to buy actually, and I don't think stock would be sufficient. With the rocker arms it would be nice to find something cheaper, but these aren't cheap. The lifters, I really havent seen much else besides the Comp R's os the Crane ones which are hella expensive. Of course the headers are coated... yet I wonder is the coating worth 200 dollars... or would exhaust jackets be ok... ? I think I will stay stock stall at first, and upgrade at a later time. So.. hows this sound?

847 + 35,000mile 4bolt crate motor = spun main and rod bearing after 2000 miles.

I did spin it to 7000 a few times, I figured that bottom end would hold it, but I guess I was wrong.

Now I'm just trying to find the motivation to rebuild it.

Where can Comp R's be had for 160 dollars? Same with the 1-piece pushrods... any part numbers/vendors for these products?

I could search online just like you but I'm lazy and you could search summit or jegs just like me. I bought my lifters from SpeedDemonMotorsports here in Houston but several places around here local have them about the same price. Any shop can give you the PN's for both of these, do you have any local performance shops in Ohio by you?

Re: GM847 owners inside

Alright seems like I got everything, thank for all the information, looks like I will for sure be going with the GM 847 camshaft, stock heads, stock bottom end and see where I end up. On a retarded note, some Master Tech at Classic Ford near where I live in Mentor said there is no way my LT1 ran a 14.1 bone stock unless it had slicks and nitrous... he is just jealous because his 5.0 couple and 1999 GT are both slower I guess (14.7 and 14.5 respectivly) Said I probably have a cam 2.... Ford guys CAN (not all are) be so retarded.. but I am sure there is some Chevy guys the same. Thanks.
