GM 847 cam on a basically stock motor

Would putting a GM847 in a stock LT1 be too much? Will the springs need to have more pressure? I'll have headers, ram-air, my puny 2.5" catback and a custom chip.

I saw that! Congrats altjar!

But he's not totally stock. I'm worried about bogging, I've heard a too big cam will bog.

you definetly cant run that cam with stock valve springs!!!

you need new springs, locks, retainers, roller rockers, and id advise new lifters too.

its really not a cam meant for stock heads...........youd probably be a lot happier with something better matched for your engine.

altjars car is far from stock also, hes about as modded as you can possibly get without having heads done.

The heads will be ported later down the road. So what do you guys think for hp and 1/4 times?

If you are doing cam, go as big as you can manage, what is the point of going small cam now, and then bigger cam later? most people throw in the hotcam, then pull that and put in cc305, xe 224/230, xe 230/236 and the likes, even the cc306. Unless you want to keep heads stock, and will not be doing headwork, or other major things, then go smaller cam, but i just dont see it that way, if you putting cam, obviously looking for performance, why not do it right the first time, esp if gas mileage is not primary concert.

thats my plan........heads will be done in a few months.........so might as well have fun with a big cam for now.

as soon as my 847 and new clutch are installed/broken in........well see what a stock head car can do without all of altjars mods.

Another question, out of curiousity:
What kind of mileage do LT1 M6 cars get highway/city? What can I expect with the mods I plan?

Occasionaly do searches for under my name to see what comes up, found this and ill throw in my .02

I love the 847, but if i didnt have the mods to support it, i bet it would be a PITA to drive and not put downl much power. Get your bolt on mods down, then dive into the engine.

As for gas mileage...i pull 24-26mpg on the highway with cam and 433 gears on trips. City driving, ha, i beat on my car. Prolly less than 8 but i never checked.
