Gm 847
Gm 847
Does anyone know what I have to do to a bone stock LT1 to support a GM 847 the way it should? Ported heads,Long tubes, intake i am not quite sure so any help is greatly appreciated. Also what is a popular combo to make a 95 Z run lower 12s without sacrificing driveability BTW my car is absolutly stock as of now except the previous owner removed the cat
A GM847 cam should definately get you into the low 12's w/ the right combination of parts. Yes a stock block will be able to handle it. Probably want to stay shifting around 6500rpm w/ the right valvetrain setup.
Good heads, exhaust, drivetrain and driving ability are all key and expensive.
If you want drivability then I'd go Lingenfelter. Problem is if you're looking for lope then you'll need to go with a different setup. Their 211/219 cam along w/ their heads/intake are perfect for a stock like driver feel (only stronger).
I had the LPE combo with hooker LT's, 3.73 gears, ORY, stock injectors, stock ignition, Ed Wright dyno tune, 12-bolt and ET Streets and the car pulled 370rwhp and 355rwtq on a stock bottom end. Was able to muster a 12.0 @ 115 for a best at a sea level track. Car ran consistent 12.1's @ 114 to 115 with a 1.7 60' and at a 3750lb race weight. The drivability was just like stock. However... no lope so it was the perfect sleeper back in the day...
With all said components I switched out to an 847 and different dyno tune, was able to dyno 400rwhp and 360rwtq, but the car was only able to run a best of 12.2 @ 114. It was plagued with problems (one being still using 3.73 gears w/ the M6) which I didn't feel like investigating since I was on the road to building a new engine. I'm sure the problems were from my own doing since I just threw this combo together, but if you put enough thought, research, and bloody knuckles to it you can run extremely well with the 847 and the right set of heads.
Do some research around here regarding different setups. May be able to answer some more questions you might have.
