getting rid of 306, need opinions on new cam

Hey guys whats up. I've decided to change my cam. My long term plan and car setup has changed. I put the cc306 in about a month ago, but now i think i want to use N20 instead of going NA. I just had the engine rebuilt (bad oil rings) and now i have a 355 w/ forged pistons. I want to run a pretty large shot for the extra power at the track, but i dont need it all the time. Anyway i want a cam with near stock drivablitly and decent milage (right now i get less that 15 mpg) and one that will work well with the n20. I found the extra power on the street not worth it, since i dont street race. The car has most bolt ons right now, its an M6 with 3:42's. My heads are mildly ported ("LT4" or "stage 1") Im thinking a cam with 114 or 116 lsa, a little extra durration than stock, and high lift (especially exhaust) the heads are good to .600. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for the help - Mike R

You should try a hotcam and grind it down to a 114 lsa. that should work well with your setup.

this is off topic, but how much would you sell that cam for?

COMP 224/236 extreme energy would be the only way to go, unless you want a 305 or a hotcam. The XE would be much more fun on the street, and is all I recomend for a mild nitrous cam. 114 LSA should be fine, and very driveable.

What makes the XE grind more fun for the street? Do you mean more power or better drivablitly?

In a perfect world I would like to get someone to trade me cams, the 306 for whatever one i decide i want, but if that dosent happen i'll sell it. I got it from thunderracing for about 250, it only has 500 miles, 200 sounds fair. Im gonna swap it out on my spring break (march 15-23)

XE grinds make power in a more useable range. Lower rpm's and such. So therefore it would make better power off idle and be in the power band instantly instead of reving high to make power. The steep lobes also provide better vacume, so idle and driveability are much better.

thanks Beast96Z - looks like a good cam, seems to be what i want. Do you think a cam with the same specs but more lift would be worth the extra money (custom grind) in this case. I feel like i should take advantage of my better valve springs - thanks agian.

I have a cc306 and that cam is great for nitrous. I would keep it I bet a couple people out there will agree. If you want a great cam for nitrous I would get a custom ground cc306.

What do you mean with by a custom ground, higher lsa? i agree the 306 would work good with n20, but i just want the drivablity and milage back more than anything else - thanks for the input

Actually comp has an even more extreme grind with bigger lift. Yes, it is custom.

Personally, I'd get the CC306 ground on a 114 or 115 and be done with it.

It would be OK, but I don't think it would get him tol"like stock" driveability. Wouldn't be that bad though.

can i pull out my 306 and get it reground on a 114 or 115 lsa? i didnt know you could do that. That does seem like a good way to go. What kind of shop as the ability to do that, and how much $ will it run? also would changing only the lsa make a big diffreance in drivablity and milage? thanks guys

i can live with not quite stock drivabilty, but im sick of cam surge, and crappy milage, also it is important that i can pass emissions

I don't think getting your cam reground would be possible. Even if you could, it would be easier to order whatever you want and sell yours in the for sale section. I've seen comp do some weird things though. You might give them a call.

There is no way to "regrind" a cam onto a different LSA. You are changing the number of degrees (ie distance) between the lobes.
