getting ready to start her up after rebuild...

No bottom end work was done. But I recently just put new heads, new valves, new springs, thoroughly cleaned everything. New head gaskets, exhaust and intake gaskets and TB gasket. New opti, new wires, new plugs. Now my problem lies here. I want to turn her over and run her for a few seconds to make sure that everything is alright. But I do not have my new radiator yet so it will be a dry run. Is this a bad idea with new headgaskets? How long can I run it for. Or should I just wait until I get the radiator.... I can't wait to see what she sounds like. Its been like 2 weeks without my Z. I don't know if I can take it anymore......

You can run it for over 10 seconds without a problem if you want. But I wouldn't even do it for that long though. I am sure it will be fine for you to hear what it sounds like. I did the same thing just last night.

I more or less just want to hear weither the rockers sound like they are adjusted right. I'm just gonna wait for the radiator. There's no reason for me not to wait. I'm just getting ahead of myself.

Dude you've already waited 2 weeks just hold out for a lil more. Why rush it and worry about it later? Patience my man Patience.

I agree...you dont want to shut down the initial startup for 20 min or so unless something major is wrong.....besides your not going to be able to tell anything about the rockers in 10 secs.

I understand, my Z28 has been in the garage for almost 3 months! It all started out with a faulty water pump...

Fortunately I have my work truck here to drive around in, but it's been tough waiting this long.

Thank God I'm near the end of my wait, my valvetrain and stuff should be here next week.

One more question:
How long should I let it run for in order to properly heat cycle the head gaskets. I know that there is a warm up and cool down period for them. What is it?

Thanks...
