Getting new heads... Read this please, need help with additional mods.

I am going to be buying a set of heads thanks to my NGK in the #8 backing out and taking the threads with it after only 20 thousand miles of it being in. However, this has opened some doors for me. I now have a little bit of money to play with.

When I am putting the heads on Ill be adding some mods that would be easy to do with the heads off the car.

These mods include a set of long tubes that I already have, and a short list of things I would like to add. 1.6rr, new springs, probably pushrods... Any other mods do you think I should do or maybe look into at this time? I'm not going for anything wild. However, my last pass was 13.6 @ 104 with just a few mods and second gear bouncing the rev. Since then I got my transmission reworked and I think I could go low 13's with these mods. Our track may not prep the best, but if I can get through the 60' in the 1.9's I'd be happy! lol

What's your opinion?

What is your budget and intended goals? A cost effective method would be to buy a set of stock castings and send them to Lloyd or Advanced Induction. With the right cam and supporting mods, you can easily be at 380-400hp at the wheels.

I agree with Mr. GTP. We need to know your budget. I would strongly recommend putting a cam in while you're that deep into the motor.

Sorry that I did not specify... I am getting just a set of rebuilt heads (stock) and was just thinking of doing a few other mods since we were having to take it down so far.

I had even toyed with the idea of a mild cam? I would have loved to go with the LE packages, but frankly I don't have the money for it now... And I can just buy the heads and not need to supply a core as is needed with his service. I've been without my DD for a couple of months now, and I need it back ASAP! lol

I was just wondering about what you guys would reccomend as far as:
1.6rr's
Springs
Pushrods

And what cam can I get to run with just my current mail order tune until I can get back in the game good?

I am a college student, so I may not have a huge budget, but I'm a smart shopper too

shop used
as for what cam w/ ur mail order tune, NONE. each cam needs its own tune

I would recommend the cc503 for a good mild cam, or the crane 227.

Yeah, I understand that... I didn't mean like permanently or anything, I meant just will it run without a tune? As far as that goes, how much would MadZ28 cost just to update to that 503?

So you just plan on having your heads ported and nothing else? It may be more cost friendly and better for your car in terms of power gains by just getting a stock replacement head to replace the damaged one. Then spend some money on a cam and supporting mods.

I agree, the heads are just stock replacements. I was going to include these other mods after I got the heads. Does anyone here have a cam that would fit my application for cheap? I didn't see anything helpful in the for sale section.

If your head only has some thread damage I'd have the sparkplug threads fixed on the head you have and put the money you were going to use on replacement heads towards porting your current heads or in the bank for future mods.

Would you really trust a helicoil in it though? I wasn't too keen on the idea of it?

In one word , Yes. Especially if I only had the money to replace it with a stock head.

There are lots of grinds on the market right now, probably the most cost effective and street friendly cam would be the LT4 Hotcam kit.
