Getting LE1 package, am I missing anything?
Getting LE1 package, am I missing anything?
Well this is for my buddys 94 T/A with 109K on the the clock. Im trying to give him some help, and want to make sure we are not forgetting anything.
We already have headers on the car, but we will also need a 52mm TB, 30 lb injectors. We should also replace the rockers (1.6 or 1.7?), pushrods, lifters, and timing chang along with gaskets and stuff. Are we forgetting anything?

Re: Getting LE1 package, am I missing anything?
the cams bret makes for the le packages are usually recomended to run with 1.6 rockers. to date, the 1.7 rocker arms are'nt as strong as the best 1.6's. not so much by design, but by materials used. the best bang for the buck is the lightweight comp cams pro mags for 7/16 stud. they are one of the strongest on the market. anyways, 109k miles is going to bring on bearing problems more than likely with a cam swap. it doesn't always happen, but commonly you spin a cam bearing and ruin the new cam you bought. it might take 1k, 10k, or it might never happen, but i don't think its worth the risk. if you buddy doesn't want to refreshen the motor, maybe he can slap on the le1 heads and run it that way for a while. you can use 1.6 rockers on the stock cam to help the heads get air. I was going to do a cam swap on my 89k mile 94. I got ythe cam out and that first bearing was pretty rough onthe bottom side. i just hated to put the new 340 dollar cam in the old bearings and risk it. You can certainly try it, but i wouldn't risk it. there's many guys out here who would agree.

Yeah, were aware of the risk but I think we are going to give it a shot anyway. The engine seems to be in good shape right now.
I was just looking at some prices for the valvetrain upgrades and they got pricey very quick. Are the pushrods, rockers, lifters, and timing chain a necessitiy when doing this type of install?

Yea timing chain will be a necessity for you because I'm sure it's never been changed. If it's been changed in the past 20k miles I'd say dont worry bout it. Since your friend has over 100k miles, I'd say almost everything is a necessity. Pushrods, lifters, rockers, etc work together and wear together, so If you just throw in a new cam that isnt worn onto your already worn valvetrain, its not goin to last long... replace as much as you can...

honestly, from what ive read/heard and know, the pushrods and lifters should be fine. however hardended pushrods will be needed if your running guideplates. lifters are fricken expensive tho and those stock rollers should be fine as long as you check em before they go back in, but they are normally good to go, rocker arms obviously change with the cam.
Re: Getting LE1 package, am I missing anything?
here's the setup to run on a budget... comp beehive springs, stock lifters, hardened pushrods (94's had them stock..not sure what other years did or not) comp pro mags and gm guideplates
