gears tc vs. hotcam headers

for my sig car...which combo would YOU choose? I'm running a 14.6 now and my ultimate goal is to get into the 13's consistently. I know 3.73's and tc would get me there. what can I expect from hotcam and headers?

I'd go for gears/headers at the point you are at now. You definitely gotta ditch those 2.73s.

Hotcam and headers will get you there.

It depends on what you want. A torque converter, depending on how high of RPM it is set for can be a real pain in the butt on the street.

Well with both you will see very nice gains. But i would get rid of those crappy gears asap. Like 94grayv6 said i would get the headers and gears. That way you gain some more power and at the same time you get rid of those lowzy gears. Later on you could get the cam and tq. But for now you should get the weak spots taken care of.

I agree, headers and gears. This will get you MUCH better gearing plus a good gain in HP/Tq. Then do that cam followed by the TQ conv.

thx for the responses! I think my next mods will be gears, followed by electric cutout and headers. guess I'll worry about the tc nd hotcam when I have more $$$!

First things first. I'd do these mods in the following order.

Headers (more power is always good), gears (you'll hate the converter with stock 2.73's), torque converter, then cam (you'll need all 3 mods before it to maximize the potential of your new cam).

yep, the track is like ice unless you have et streets. first time I got to the track I had to go against a damn viper with gargantuan tires! I ran a 14.928@95.95 with a 2.493 60'...but more surprising...he only ran a 13.190@109.81 and a 2.089 60'.

I agree. I went headers, then cam, then tc, then 3.73's. The tc with the cam was nice, but those 2.73's with all of that got annoying real quick.

The order suggested by Kain sounds like the way I should've gone.. No biggie though, they're all in there now - good fun

I agree.
But now you have to decide which headers and gears you're going to get.

id go with 3.73's and some used SLP shorties. Then you will still have plenty left over. Maybe enough to put in some 1.7rr's and springs.

Last year, I went a 12.82 with just a set of 4.10's and a 3200 stall. The engine was still completely stock with exhaust manifolds. The gears, stall, and a good set of tires took me from a 13.6 to a 12.8.
This year, I put a CC305 cam, ported heads, and headers, and went a 12.0.
The gears and stall were alot earier AND CHEAPER 8/10's.
