This swap won't be for awhile, but I just have some questions.

My car currently has 2.73 gears. I can get a set of 3.42s out of a 2002 m6 rearend extremely cheap with very few miles on them. Am I going to need an install kit? I'm fairly sure a stock 2.73 rear end has a different carrier than a stock 3.42 rear end.

yes, different carrier. can't believe no one has responded. i'm no expert. if i were you, i'd call gm performance or someone and ask.
