Gear install... what does a good pattern look like?
I'm installing Motive 4.10's to replace my old 2.73's
A friend in the MFBA lent me pretty much all the tools I need (hydraulic press, backlash indicator, etc) and started me off as far as shimming goes, and I think I've got it, but I'm not sure what a "good pattern" is supposed to look like when you've painted the gears. Does anyone have any pics?

The wear pattern should be a nice long oval positioned inthe center of each tooth, I don't have any good pictures, but check some of the gear manufatures web sites and see what you can find. A good comprehensive shop manual will show you several examples that will help you determine which direction to move the ring or pinion based upon the wear pattern you start with.
Don't forget to torque the pinion correctly too so you have the right amount of end play (been a long time since I did one but thats what I remember).
good luck
