You could but then you might have to look at adding on the oil cooler adapter gaskets since I bet you have to drop that to loosen the pan, is cheap so this is informative not a critical comment.

I tend to look at things like the conversion gasket kit because between myself and a few friends we have a fair number of LT1s and the spare parts seem to come in handy OFTEN.
I currently own two wagons and the sedan and a good friend and his wife both daily drive modded sedans, the list goes on. Seems somebody always needs something.

Ahh I was wondering what that gasket was for, it looked odd to me, couldnt place it. I dont have an oil cooler. So I think the timing cover will suffice for me.

FWIW I compared those gasket kits and they are a few dollars cheaper at autozone (cept the conversion set) as are the Mr.Gasket 5716 head gaskets I am going to run.

Thanks again for the help Dwayne.

P.S what are you using for a timing chain? I would like to go with a single roller set up, that fits in the stock cover. Isnt that what the Lt4 kit is? (Not extreme duty)

wouldnt it also be a good idea to add 4-bolt main caps if you are pulling the engine for the swap?

...im tempted to go that route now when i do mine in a couple months.

No, 4-bolt main caps is a BIG step beyond requyiring a lot of additional machining, some of which many engine rebuilders are not even capable of. Every shop should gbe able to line hone but new caps requires a line BORE and not a lot of shops are capable. The 2 bolts work well for most applications.

I just picked up my gaskets today for Auto Zone. I got the timing cover gasket which came with water pump gaskets and O rings along with what looks to be a rear main seal. I also got a simple Intake gasket which came with a throttle body gasket and new injector O rings. The total came to $27.

Maybe I should have said oil filter adapter/cooler because they are very similar.

I run a stock chain, I think it completely illogical the way everyone insists on "upgrading" a part that does not break and in doing so spend a lot of money and compromise reliability and repairability with electric pumps if they go with gen 1 chains.
