Gas tank removal

How bad is it to remove the gas tank in a 95 Camaro? Any tricks?
Thanks!

A pain.

Do you need to replace the fuel pump? If so, why not go through the hatch?

Yes, my fuel pump is only putting out 25 lbs. I would like to replace it with a walbro 255 lph. I heard the tank was a pain and that guys cut a hole in the hatch to change it. Is that the best way to do it?
Thanks!

I've never done it myself but I've read on here numerous times that cutting a hole in the hatch area is the way to go. After the initial time it takes to cut the hole its a breeze to get to the pump.

I've done it on three cars now (my T/A, a 96Z, and a 94 T/A), and each time it gets easier and easier.

Here are some pics of the installation on the 96Z:

And my guide for cutting the panel, including dimensions:

Hope this helps.

Yeah, i did it last Fri, not a bad job. You have to disconnect the fuel lines in order to get the assembly out. That's the only hang up I had.
