Gas smell/evap questions.
Gas smell/evap questions.
Like many LT1 owners I have a car that smells like gas. I followed the testing procedure for the control valve between the tank and the carbon cannister, it checked out ok. I blew through the line between the cannister and the engine. It's clear. I blew through the other varions hoses and everything seemed clear. I replaced the cannister. Still smells. Where do I go from here?
I believe the tank has a vent near the fuel pump/ABS connector port. It's possible that could be bad? Have you checked your Schrader valve? Mine has gotten stuck open before after using a pressure guage.
Where is the fuel smell concentrated? I had the vent lines cracked up on top of the fuel tank, and the smell of C16 was enough to bring tears to your eyes....
Probably not a good idea to page a specific person in the topic. I'm really trying to discourage that. If you want a response from a specific individual, send a PM.

Gas smell is in the car while driving. I'm assuming checking for a cracked vent line means dropping the tank?
Thanks for the heads up on paging, I'll keep that in mind.
SS RRR, if you are referring to the schrader valve on the fuel rail, I see no signs of leaking fuel there.

Yes, or cutting the "hatch". Mine would smell really bad only when I stopped for a light and the driver's window was open.... nothing with the window closed or the car moving.
