fuel tank leak...

Discovered my car had a very minor fuel leak at the top drivers side. I pulled down the tank last night, holly hell was it a pain. I havent identified the leak yet, but what ever it is its minor but still needs to be adressed. what are common leaking points on these tanks/ fuel lines? its a 1994 z28. I figured while i have the tank down i would do a fuel pump also? any suggestions or opinions on that?

Thanks for the help!

Re: fuel tank leak...

Common leak places would be at seams, or from the fuel pump (line connections, or gasket).
Uncommon places to leak would be: Bullet holes Rough neighborhood?

Alot of people here swear by the Walbro fuel pumps. I personally replaced mine with NOS Gm fuel pump. I went with GM because at the time i worked for GM and got a great discount, and my orginal fuel pump lasted almost 140,000 miles, so why not. But ive heard good things about the Walbro pumps as well.

Re: fuel tank leak...

Pulling the tanks is a pain. I would probably consider having the tank inspected/pressure tested, and replace it if necessary.

I bought the Racetronix pump kit a few years ago, but never installed it. I replaced the factory original pump with an aftermarket pump from Autozone or Advanced, but it failed rather quickly. That was probably due to all of the rust in my tank. Sometime last year I replaced both the tank and pump. I just used an AC/Delco pump. There are places they can be purchased for a reasonable amount of money.

might want the consider cutting the trap door in for easy future pump changes as its easier with tank dropped and will also give an inspection point. I would suspect the lines first.

I am prolly going to cut the trap door in while its down. I did find a few lines that seem like the could be a little leaky. Idealy i would like to replace all the lines...do they make a kit for this or i have to get everything indivudally? I wanna do this once and do it right the first time. I hope I never have to pull down this tank again
