im trying to locate a fuel smell on the right side (PS) of the intake. i cant seem to pinpoint it.

do the injectors have o-rings that leak?

Right looking into the motor (like driverside) or right as in sitting inthe car (passenger side)

The injectors do have little orings that can leak. You also have a FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) on the back of the fuel rail that has vac lines and screws into the rails.

How bad is the smell? It's normal to smell a little, do you see any wet spots?

 

He indicated "ps", which I believe means passenger side.

In addition to the injector O-rings, there is the possibility of a leak in the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm. When it leaks, fuel can flow through the vacuum line that connects to the passenger side of the intake.

The Schrader valve is also on the hard line right behind the passenger side of the intake. That has a valve core that can leak (try to tighten), or the connection is only swaged onto the hard line, and can come loose if you've torqued it a bit too hard while connecting a fuel pressure gauge.

 

Could be the Evap Sol. line is unplugged or loose. This is the return line from the tank that carries vapors to the purge solenoid. See diagram below from ShBox:

 

Injuneer is right, i am talking about the passenger side.

also, i should have noted that i replaced all the old evap hoses because i thought that was the issue.

the smell isnt terribly strong, which is probably why im having a hard time locating it. im using the vortech FMU (bypassing the stock FPR). im going to take that off and take it apart to make sure it is not the problem even though im sure it isnt.

i have a feeling its either an injector or maybe the evap system. maybe the solenoid? Ill check the Schrader valve too...

its a new smell and definitely isnt normal....

if it is the o-ring on the injectors, do i have to buy the whole injector or can i just replace the ring?

Your able to just buy the o-ring for the injector.

 

This happened to me. I ended up with more gas in my oil pan than oil!

 

well, i found the problem. what do ya know? it was my vortech FMU. i need to get rid of that thing and get some large injectors.....

This is an old post but since the problem recently raised its ugly (and possibly dangerous) head on my 1993 Z28, I thought I would post a fairly good solution to this problem. When idling at a red light and with the windows down, I would occasionally get a breeze filled with fresh gasoline vapors. I could also smell the same thing under the hood when the engine was either idling or just after shutting the motor off.

During my extended trip into "OptiSparkLand" I was poking around under the car and noticed that the small hose connecting the EVAP System Nylon Vapor Line looked slightly askew. But on closer inspection, I moved the line and it almost fell off the steel return pipe to the gas tank. This is located under the car just aft of the Driver's Door right alongside the two quick connectors for the delivery and return pressure fuel lines. I thought it worthwhile to inspect all of these "soft" connections, starting with the elbow fitting on the passenger side of the Throttle Body that leads to EVAP Solenoid and also the one located along the top of the valve cover on the Driver's Side of the engine. In all three locations, these short segments of hose had carbonized, lost their elasticity and completely failed...even though you could not actually see the problem without a closer, hands on inspection.

The solution was to use some 3/8" Fuel-Proof Fuel Injection Hose that I cut off in short segments and secured at these points with steel hose clamps. The attached link takes you to a photo display of the fix(es) and as a follow up to this issue.... No More Gasoline Vapors/Smells...
