Is it the fuel pump? Your opinions please.

I'm so ****ING PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW!

So the Opti and coil has been replaced w/brand new stuff, fuel filter, plugs & wires no more than 6 months old.
Since I did the above, the car has been running GREAT--except for when the engines gets to NOT(normal operatg temps), at idle, if I would tap on the accelerator, there would be a slight hesitation, no big deal, I figured I had to go through the normal route of what everyone else has to do, like replace the O2's, EGR, fuel pressure reg, and finally the fuel pump, right???

But on the way home, my car started to backfire below 2000rpm, and all of a sudden, it died! Right in the middle of 5:00 traffic on the southbound 405, the busiest freeway in the world.

I had to get off of the freeway, naturally.

I was able to pop in the clutch & once it's over 2000 rpm, I could drive it, but once it hits below that, it starts to stutter, wants to konk out, I don't smell any gas, it CAN'T be the electronics, right? So it's GOT to be something to do when the car gets warm, so I'm figuring maybe the vacuum hoses, or the fuel pressure regulator, but I'm REALLY thinking that it's the fuel pump...

Any thoughts?

This irritates the shee-hit outta me!

Well I can almost definetely say it isn't your fuel pump. It could be a bad NEW opti. Has it been doing this before you replaced the opti too?

Yes & no, it did, but the severity was at about 10% compared to how it is now! It's REALLY BAD now. I could just about shoot this thing, it was running so great, this Opti has been operating on this car for 5-6 days!

What are the reasons for ruling out the fuel pump?

Well, because a bad fuel pump usually doesn't provide enough fuel for higher rpm. (so it runs crappier and lacks power at higher rpm)
You could always get a fuel pressure tester from AutoZone and test the fuel pressure.
