From: NY...what a bad place for a nice car
fuel pump replacement (trap door)
so i finally decided when i do my fuel pump im using teh trap door method b/c im lazy and i have to do it myself...i just need to talk my dad into it ...
anyway i havea cutoff tool but its one that use teh bigger blades.....can i just make a few cut and sheet metal clippers....also so i dont create alot of sparks? anything else i could use?
how would i go about sealing teh hole after im all done with it?
any suggestions or usefull info i can use pleae tell me
whos with and against thetrap door method....

I used a thin piece of aluminum and very short sheet metal screws and RTV to cover the hole. Here's a picture of the install I did on a friends 96 Z28:

Here is a link with a pic of the door I used. It is the larger one obviously. Im out of town at the moment but I will shoot some pics of it installed on monday.
They call it access door. I will get the dimensions of the door if you want them... I have to find my catalog first I guess

yes show me the door to ....now i need to talk my dad into this ...he wont help me the bastard ....which means i cant use his tools.....this sux....

That's exactly what I did but I had to cut a little more over the disconnects. How did you get to them with out doing that?
It was pretty easy. A very long needle-nose pliers and a screwdriver, and all of them came off very easily.

^anybody.....
BTW i replaced teh pump ...it runs great ,,,i did notice when revved at high rpms it would runa little rich .....
one question....b4 i patch up teh hole what i did was use a few zip ties to hold the bucket together while teh glue settled.....im nto going to do this but i was wonderign how long will the zipties last in gas..lol....just a wonder ...
also any suggestive or creative ways to patch up the hole....i was gonan use RTV sealant some sheet metal and screws

Go by Ramair's link below. It is a solid method. Just use real short sheet metal screws and RTV. That's good enough. 10 screws will do it. Round your edges and corners for a stronger cover.
