Fuel pump loud??
Fuel pump loud??
Ive seen threads that a loud fuel pump means its going out. Mine can be heard fairly well so should i be concerned? Should I be able to hear it at all? Its a high pitch whine in mine. What should I replace it with(if I should). I am stayin all to nearly all stock but will put in a higher flowing one if it makes no difference. I want reliability and fairly easy to install as well as good on the corners and low gas situations. I want a plug and play that doesnt require additional modifications. Any suggestions
Re: Fuel pump loud??
I just paid like 800 dollars to get my fuel pump replaced in my 95 Z28.
they justify this because they have to remove the exhaust pipes, and I think they have to drop the rear end to be able to drop the fuel tank. And of course, its an Intank pump.
I never heard my old pump, didnt know thats what was wrong with the car; It would run ok, but when I would get on it, it would feel like it was running on 7, and just didnt have the power it should have.
Now that the new Fuel pump is in, thats like all I can hear in the damn car other than my exhaust. (no stereo)
And dont worry, you'll know when it goes out, Your car wont start
Good Luck,

P.S. And no, you cant just add an inline pump

Re: Fuel pump loud??
I would do the trapdoor method so I would do it myself. Mine is just loud and its stock so somehting isnt quite right. My DSM had a walbro255 and that could be heard but like I said this one is a stocker and very comparative. I dont want it to go out becuase its my only car and I would have to order the pump and then install it leaving me without a car. The car sat for about a year before I bought it with 27000 miles on it. Could the pump have rusted or something to make it so loud? Are there any disadvantages to going high flow on a stock car?
Re: Fuel pump loud??
I can hear mine with the windows up, radio off. It's a buzz/whine sortof sound. It's made that sound ever since I bought the car with 59k on it. I think it's louder sometimes than other times. It now has 105k, still running great... knock on wood!
I think the key to diagnosing one that's going bad would be has it gotten louder than before?

Re: Fuel pump loud??
GM's are known to have loud fuel pumps. In the Camaros it might sound louder because it is so close to the interior of the car. I have always heard both of my Camaro's fuel pumps. Sounds like that guy that told you it was going to go is just full of
