Fuel pump going out??? New pump options?

We are begining to think my fuel pump is going out. I checked the pressure today, at shrader valve: key on 47psi, car running 40psi. Which is within range but the car still feels as if its not getting fuel. We changed the fuel filter before the pressure test and took it for a ride, felt better then got worse. Is it possible the pump isn't producing enough pressure while driving?

My friend thinks that maybe the filter was bad enough the pump was getting hot and working to hard which caused it to finally start acting up. The reason he thinks this is because the car would sometimes run good in the mornings after not driving it the day before, then after about 30 min of driving, it would start acting up and not run right the rest of the day. Could this also be why the car seems to have gotten slower over the past couple months? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm going to trap door the fuel pump so i'm not worried about changing it. Also are there any aftermarket fuel pumps i can get that drop rieht in the tank? I looked at the racetronix walboro, but it looks like it requires extra wiring and stuff.

Thanks Chris

I'm not sure if its keeping up when the car is being driven though. I don't have a gauge in the car, so i'm not sure how to check it while driving

Alos anyone ever use this, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GR...2/?image=large.

You need a longer hose, then tape the gauge to the windsheild.
Dont do this in rush hour traffic though, LOL

Why not test the fuel pressure when the car starts acting up?

Your reasoning makes sense, but doesn't rule out other components that may cause your problem.

Anyways, as for a fuel pump replacement you want to go here:

Racetronix is too expensive. There is a walbro dealer on ebay who has some great deals. Brand new walbro, with the install kit, with a 1 year warranty. Same as racetronix but $50 less.

How long is the hose for the guage, mines JUST long enough to shut the hood and tape it to the window.

Only real way to know for sure if thats the problem is to check the pressure while driving/ WOT.

When mine went out, the pressure at idle was fine. It wouldnt hold pressure when the key was off, it would drop right away. At WOT the pressure would drop to 25 psi.
