fuel pump...
fuel pump...
I took my car in to get the rotors turned today. i parked the car, and went inside to tell them i was there. guy goes out to start my car, comes back in and says it keeps stalling. i figure its out of gas cuz it was pretty low when i got there. so he goes and gets like 3 gallons of gas and the car starts right up. he takes it for a test drive, brings it back in and fixes the rotors. he goes to test drive it and the friggin thing wont start. only like 8 pounds of pressure coming out of the fuel pump. its got power going all the way back to the pump. he tells me its gonna cost $600 to fix. also says i have the option of cutting a hole in the floor myself, and fixing it. what would you guys do? im just a poor college student, so i dont wanna shell out 600 bones if i dont have to.
Well here is a suggestion. Try to do it yourself because in all honesty it is not as hard as it seems. My gas tank for my grand am is in the same place and I did it myself. The pump alone after tax was $318.00 and I am a broke person too. I had never done that before and was so easy I could not believe I almost paid someone to do it.
Also the fuel pumps are usually expensive because they use a Modular fuel pump in a lot of GM cars. If the pump goes out you have to replace the whole unti not just part of it

i got my pump from www.Summitracing.com for only 125.95
would i have to do anything extra to install an aftermarket fuel pump?
edit: which one should i buy?? theres a ton of aftermarket ones, but how i do i know which one will work?

an after market pump feeds off of the fuel line(in-line) fule pump. It uses the line that runs into the fuel pump in the tank to suck the gas. All you have to do is cut into that line and find your power source for the pump

The fuel pump you ordered will not fit you filler cup right away, you will have to cut a little plastic piece, not a big deal. It works great in my car. As far as instalation goes-you got two option -cut it or not. I pulled the rear end/tank out. Big PITA. In you case if might be enough just to lower rear end. I know how it feels being a student and having no money, but you should have some time
. Good luck,
