Fuel Pressure TOO HIGH!!
Fuel Pressure TOO HIGH!!
i just installed my 383 lt1 and drove it. it doesnt want to go more than 25-30 mph. the tranny shifts so its not that. i just noticed that the fuel pressure is at 80 psi. way too high. would that cause my engine not to run like it should. the gauge is a nos mechanical. the afpr is a accel part #74566. there are no leaks. no white or black smoke. doesnt smell like gas. is this whats causing my car to run like crap? what can i do. i tried adjusting the regulator and pressure stays at 80 psi. what can i do?
your doing something wrong adjusting it. get the pressure down to 35-40. when i went to the dyno the 1st time w/ my 383 my pressure was 50psi. i pulled 330rwhp the 1st run. lt1 edit wasnt working so we turned the fuel pressure down to 30psi to lean it out and i pulled 381rwhp 370rwtq
Sounds like either a bad afpr or a bad gage, get rid of the afpr and put the stock one back on, its not needed. and see what happens..you could be locking up the injectors, not sure exactly how they work, but i would think double the pressure they are designed for would not be good.
they are 30lb ford motorsport injectors. the gauge hasnt been used in about 6 monts. would having high fuel pressure cause my car not to go more than 30 mph? if i do put the stock afpr back on, how do i relieve the pressure? pcm4less tuned it. that has nothing to do with it, right? i have not installed the o2 sensors yet because i have not gotten the y-pipe yet. i have hooker lt's.
If you are running 80psi fuel pressure, and the person that did your program thought you were running stock fuel pressure, your injectors are flowing more than 40% extra fuel with each injector pulse. That is beyond the ability of the long term fuel corrections to compensate for.
First check the gauge for accuracy. If its showing 80psi and adjusting the regulator doesn't help, there is an obstruction in the return line, or the regulator is shot. Put the stock FPR back in.... that will tell you if its the regulator or a line problem.
Relieving the pressure is as simple as putting a rag over the Schrader valve and depressing the core. Fuel pressure is not controlled by the PCM or programming, only by the regulator.

. Would have been nice to have that piece of info right up front in the first post.If you really have 80psi fuel pressure, and no O2 sensors, you are destroying your engine, as the super rich mixture washes the oil off the cylinder walls, and the rings gouge them up...... then the fuel dilutes the oil, and the bearings start to go......

Q
how do i check it the gauge is functional? the gauge is mechanical and the schrader valve doesnt have the pin in the middle anymore. to relieve the pressure, do i just get a rag and wrap it around the schrader valve and disconnect the line? do you think anything happened to my engine? it was probably on for a total of 1hr on and off within 3 days. only drove it twice. less than 1 mile. if there is something stuck in my return line, how do i check?
