fuel pressure regulator?

Ok, today I pulled the plugs on my hawk and they were black...smelled like fuel. That explains why my car has been running like sh*t. I am running a stock fuel pump woth 32lb accel injectors. Is there a fuel pressure regulator on my car or do I need to purchase one? And if I do need to purchase one, when does it go and how do I install it?

First of all, for your stock regulator to be causing a rich condition, it would have to have a hole in the diaphragm. So pull the vacuum line off the regulator and see if it's wet.

If it's not wet, it's probably working correctly. Now check the condition of your air filter. I didn't notice if you have a cotton air filter but if so, be sure it's not over oiled and choking the engine for air. Now it's time to check the fuel pressure with a gage. Use the type with a hose so you can view it while driving if you ever need to. A good test is see how fast the fuel pressure drops when the engine is cut off.

Here's another view of the fuel rail

You list a 255LPH fuel pump in your signature but I don't think that is the stock pump specs.

The next thing to consider is the programming.

Unrelated to your rich problem, I believe your TB is too large for your engine.

Thanks for the pics Rob.

so, I will check the regulator....and should I get it reprogrammed, or dyno tuned?

You should first eliminate any mechanical causes for a rich condition such as a sticky injector or leaking regulator as I mentioned earlier. Then after all the possibilities are proven out, then go on to the programming. In addition, we have found that if a plug is fouled it can still fire occasionally and will allow the engine to idle clean and rev up good but cause poor fuel economy and a rich condition. We found this on a 4 cylinder believe it or not. The way we found it was with an inductive tach on each wire. We also could have found it with an inductive timing light on each wire. We feel this is an easy way to find a misfiring plug with out having to remove every plug or wire.

Hope that helps
