Fuel Pressure Problem
Fuel Pressure Problem
Ok, so heres the deal. I hooked up a fuel pressure guage to my car and turned the key to on to let the pump pump up. I sat and waited, and the guage didnt move at all, it read 20psi. I tryed multiple times on turning the key on and it yieled no results. I detached and reattached the guage multiple times, and still.. 20psi. I bleed the guage, and it went down to about 5-10psi, and I turned the key on, and it didnt even move the guage. What is going on..
I start the car and I get a reading of about 30psi at idle, thats the highest I got out of all my efforts.
I let it sit for a day due to work, come back, and have like 3psi. I hooked the guage back up, and what I get sitting there, is 20psi MAX. I turn the key on, let the pump pump up, and then turn it off and repeat about 10 times, and I got REALLY close the the 40psi regular pressure. After letting the pump pump up about 10 times, it read about 37 or so. What do you think, my fuel pump? Im kinda leaning towards the fuel pump. When I listen to it pump, it kinda seems like its struggling. I dunno, I hate trouble shooting.

Re: Fuel Pressure Problem
sounds like your pump. You can clip the fuel return line and see what the gauge does. If it's your pump it won't effect it, this means you fuel pressure regulator's good and it's most likely your pump. Most guys on here just pull of the vac. hose on it and check for fuel. Also when's the last time you replaced your fuel filter??
Re: Fuel Pressure Problem
I replaced the filter not to long ago, 2-3 months maybe, because I thought that was the source of the problem (had this power loss thing going on for a while now) I will try what you suggested
Re: Fuel Pressure Problem
Yea I also got a 94 T/A also red my fuel pressure gauge stopped working and i was told that the fuel pump has to be changed....i m guessing the same for you.
Re: Fuel Pressure Problem
I'm jus guessing here but you may have the same problem I have. When you try to start the car, it takes about 3 or 4 seconds. Seems as though it does not want to go.
This is kind of going around the problem but if you turn the key to the on position, wait a few seconds, and then try to turn the car over, it starts right away. Patience is a virtue for an older machine.

Re: Fuel Pressure Problem
Test your fuel regulator by pulling the vacuum line off of it and looking for gas. Patience is good, but that wont solve the car running 20 pounds under normal pressure
