fuel pressure? barrier/hesitation up top
fuel pressure? barrier/hesitation up top
i jus searched but didnt check my pressure the way that injuneer said or w/e
problem is that about 55k in first occasionally it hits a rev limitor...my car shifts at 62+ bc the cam and tune...and in second up top bout 5k it seems to fall on its face and not want to pull
but heres my results...i didnt pull the vacume hose
idle...42...
cruising...42...
part throttle...with tranny stalling...45...
wot...38...
is 38 low wnough to lean it out enough to make me feel this rev limitor barrior...or do yall think it is ignition related...
the opti is about 10k old...but last time i pulled it off the screw that held on the rotor had backed out...so some1 told me to use locktite and i did liberally...
so yall think it could be rotor...or 130k old coil???
or fuel press
thanks
daniel

Re: fuel pressure? barrier/hesitation up top
You fuel pressure should be higher at WOT than idle as the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator will apply pressure to the diaphram within the regulator to increase fuel pressure. Sounds like your fuel pump is not keeping up with your fuel demands.
Re: fuel pressure? barrier/hesitation up top
39 at idle 41-47 with line off at idle 41-47 at WOT check by tapeing the guage to the windshield and go run the p*** out of it. If there is ANY fall in pressure from what it is at idle(41-47) it's fuel filter, pump or regulator.
Re: fuel pressure? barrier/hesitation up top
The drop from "no vacuum" pressure to "vacuum compensated" pressure varies with the cam selection. A stock cam engine will easilly drop 6 to 8psi when you attach the vacuum line, so readings as low as 35psi at idle with the vacuum line aren't unusual. A larger cam will pull less vacuum, so you would see less of a drop. But I think anything below 40psi at WOT/max load would indicate either the filter is dirty or the pump or regulator is weak.
At 38psi, the injectors will be flowing about 6.5% less than rated flow, and that wouldn't seem to be enough to hit hard enough to make it feel like a "rev limiter"..... isn't helping it run any better, but unless your injectors are pushing 90% DC at max load, it may be something other than fuel pressure.

Re: fuel pressure? barrier/hesitation up top
well i pressure checked it by driving with the fp gauge in the window and drivin it around...that was my results but i did not remove the vacume line so does that mean all my reading were about 3-5 psi high??? so does that mean all of my readings are in the clear?
cam only car with stock 100k pump...just put a brand new fuel filter...
thanks

Re: fuel pressure? barrier/hesitation up top
You are "low" at WOT. If you have 42psi at idle WITH the vacuum hose, your system would probably be over 48psi at idle without the vacuum line. That means at WOT you are losing about 10psi, and that's too much.
Any particlular reason you chose not to pull the vacuum line off at idle? Did you not believe ".... the way that injuneer said"?
