Fuel injectors

Hey guys I planned on resealing my intake manifold bcuz I have a small leak in the back of it. Since I'll have the manifold off,I want to replace the injectors while I'm at it. I know the rated number for my 94 z28 is 24.9 for the pcm,do I get the injectors rated at that or can I go a lil higher,I just wanna make sure my ses light doesn't come on if it's running too rich,or if I get it tuned.

My camaro z28 is an m6,long tube headers,heads ported,racing cam,intake manifold ported,bbk 52mm throttle body,throttle bypass,160tstat,fans programmed to come on 210 degrees,Hurst short throw shifter,

Re: Fuel injectors

You have to match the injector flow rating to the flywheel HP of the engine. The stock injectors are limited to about 360 flywheel HP. Trying to use them on higher HP applications may lead to exceeding the recommended duty cycle, running the engine short of fuel.

My recommended guideline for minimum injector size (normally aspirated) is to multiply flywheel HP by 0.07

Example:

400 flywheel HP X 0.07 = 28 #/HR

450 flywheel HP X 0.07 = 31.5 #/HR

The new injector size and its “offsets” need to be programmed in the PCM.

There is no problem going a bit oversize on injectors, to allow for future upgrades.

Cool thank you Fred. Always great information I calculated my HP and I'm around 400 to 420. So I was thinking 28 lb injectors. I read another website you recommended to not but accel or venom injectors. Would it be ok to buy them from summit racing site

Re: Fuel injectors

For your anticipated max power level, I would run a 30 #/HR, or even a 32 #/HR.

I'm not up-to-date on specific injector brands. Just haven’t had any reason to dig into the topic. On another site, there seems to be a lot of interest in products sold by Fuel Injector Connection. They seem to have a strong preference for the Bosch 3 injectors, based on a superior spray pattern. The videos comparing various injectors are very interesting. But the Bosch 3 will set you back $440 for a set of 8. I have no personal experience with the Bosch 3 injectors, or FIC. I’ve been running the same set of an earlier design Bosch injector (74 #/HR @ 58 PSI) since the engine was built in 2000, And I bought them used from a friend.

Cool thank you and if I do the 30 lb ones,I'll need to get my pcm tuned for those injectors right?

Re: Fuel injectors

You will definitely want to tune for new (not replacement) injectors.
Pay attention to the offsets and if you really want to open up a can of worms then play with the eoit.

Re: Fuel injectors

Hey guys I'm thinking I'll just stick with the stock injectors,I'm not sure if I wanna be dealing with the tune etc. I seen these injectors from summit racing site. Would these ones be ok

Re: Fuel injectors

Go to Rock Auto and buy Standard Motor Products Injectors: FJ164@$52.99ea. AC Delco is just reboxed Standard. You’ll get the right injector not an aftermarket universal ‘somewhat in range’ injector.

THIS MAY BE A DUPLICATE, BECAUSE MY EARLIER POST, AND ONE BY "Germansheperd" ARE NOT APPEARING IN THE THREAD, AT LEAST NOT ON MY PC OR iPAD?????

Was it ever tuned for the "racing cam" and the "heads ported"?

What is the point of building a 420 HP engine, and then installing stock injectors that will not let it achieve that HP?

Re: Fuel injectors

Hey Fred I'm done resealing my intake manifold and it's been almost 8 hrs for the sealant to dry. May I please have the information for number sequence for the fuel injectors starting from the front of the intake manifold to the back. I just wanna.make sure I put the correct wires in their spots. Or if anyone knows the sequence as well. 😀😀

Re: Fuel injectors

Left/driver side, front to back: 1 - 3 - 5 - 7

Right/passenger side: 2 - 4 - 6 - 8

The harness connectors are numbered.

Make sure all the O-rings came out of the rails and manifold. Good idea to get new O-rings if reinstalling the old injectors.

Re: Fuel injectors

Omg so I put everything back after the intake manifold reseal for the back. And now my camaro doesn't wanna stay on. I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it on. And there's popping too and the camaro sounds like crap. Before my leaking of oil my car ran perfect and no stalling issues
