Front Skinnies
Front Skinnies
Just got some Weld Draglites 15x3.5 skinnies. Like usual did some research on CZ28 and want to ask a few questions.
1. Looks like I'll need the 5/16" spacers. Is this correct. And if so do I also need to get longer wheel studs.
2. If I do need wheel studs, what size and length? Won't longer lengths mess with my "street" wheels which have closed end lugs? If so what can I do?
3. It's also my understanding that I don't need to grind the front calipers if I use the wheel spacers.
Thanks.

Yes, 5/16" spacer.
Yes, longer studs required by NHRA
Linenfelter and GMPP sell a 2.67" M12 knurled stud that will fit, and just barely meets NHRA (12mm of the threads must be be engaged in the "hex" protion of the nut). Problem is, these include about 5/8" of unthreaded "end" that stick way out of a stock closed lug nut. I had to drill completely through my closed ZR1 lugs, and thread the entire length, and there is a huge 1" of stud poking out of the nut.
No grinding of calipers with spacers. The interference is not the caliper anyway. It is the spring that holds the pads in the caliper, and the big horizontal bar on the steering knuckle that the caliper/pads rest on.
This pic will make you sick

I ran with the stock studs until they refused to pass me in "tech". They nailed George Baxter for the same problem, the same day, and his car was running low 9's and pulling 4-ft wheelstands. No problem with the stock studs... but NHRA doesn't make these rules up just for the heck of it.
