what are the best front shocks for everyday driving? thanks

You can pick up some KYB AGX adjustable shocks for 100 each.
Not much more than stock and you get a great shock that is adjustable.

Probably not.
The Front shocks and springs have to be removed as an assembly and then taken apart.
This requires a spring compressor, it can get ugly trying to do it yourself without the right tools.
Just take the assemblies down to your local Midas or whatever and they can change em out for around 40 to 50 bucks.
I would remove and install the assemblies yourself that will save alot of money there.

I think you can rent a spring compressor from Autozone for free.

I think I only paid $20 for spring compressors from Harborfreight.
