Free scantool for OBD2?

I have a friend who needs some stuff checked out on a 96 or 97 T/A. Does anyone know of a free scantool for OBD2 and a laptop?

Thanx
Joe

Harbor Freight sells an OBD-II scan tool for $50. Brent Franker (the Moderator) had one and it worked fine.... will only read "codes", nothing else.

Check out http://www.obd-2.com I use this software on my laptop and it works great. You can scan codes, monitor sensors, etc...

It's not free, but it's only $91.50
