Since the tranny and clutch were out getting replaced yesterday, we checked the back of the motor for the oil leak that was presenting itself. Intake? NOPE! The rear main was shot. That sucker was leaking like a sieve. Easy replacement though. Cheap too. I don't think it was the cause of the clutch failure even though there was oil in the bell housing.

My question is, has anyone else seen a rear main on an LT1 just up and go? I haven't, which is why I ask.

 

Plenty of people have (or had) rear main leaks. It's usually not a matter of "if" it will leak, more a matter of "when". It's a wear and tear item and with the LT1s getting more miles on them, an inevitability.

 

I've had mine up and die on me. Also ruined a relatively new clutch to boot...
Had it replaced when I replaced the clutch. No problems since then.
