You are going to get boned on your V6 trade in. Expect them to come at you with an offer of $3K. You'll sh*t. They'll offer a bit more. You MIGHT talk them up to $4K.

Your best bet is to try to sell your V6 on your own. You should be able to get 5K for it. Hopefully.

Don't forget he said he's 16. Insurance will kill him.
I'm suprised he can swing the v6 much less a z28! Insurance will be probably $3500+...

That's a hell of a deal. I don't know what the market is like there, but I would never let my car go for $7900. '97s around here, with that mileage, are going for $9-10k. I'd jump on it.

Hey all, first post on CamaroZ28.com, but I thought this was worth responding to.

I'm 16, and I (not my parents) just bought a '96 Z28. As far as the insurance goes, loopholes really aren't necessary to get a decent rate, if you can live without some coverage. My insurance right now is $1300/year (inc. my parents good driver discount, good student discount, and driver's ed discount), which includes liability, and uninsured motorist insurance (liability is the only insurance required by law here in CO). So, if you can live without comprehensive and collision coverage, then insurance isn't a big deal. I think my insurance agent said that adding comprehensive coverage would add about another $35-70/month, so I may consider that later on. Also, not having collision insurance is a good incentive not to get in an accident.

As far as the tranny thing, go for the M6. Mine's an A4, and that's my only gripe with an otherwise great car. Not only is it not as much fun, the 4L60E automatic GM put in F-bodys is not very sturdy, and in all likelihood you'll wind up throwing some money at some tranny repair work eventually (myself included Anyone know how hard it is to swap on M6 in for the A4?)

Anyway, hope this helps; believe me, you'll love that thing!

I would say its a good deal. I paid almost 10,000 for my 96 with 50,000 on it. They were original owners and took very good care of the car. So if the car is taken care of i would say get it. Also i hear the interior of the 97+ is a lot nicer even though i haven't seen it yet. Get the m6 you will love it, i know i do.

Be careful with the M6 the first couple of times when you're uphill at a traffic signal - you wouldn't want to roll backwards into the cars behind you!

hmm

I went from a 97 A4 V6 camaro to a 95 trans am M6, and the six-speed is the best change EVER! You feel intune with your car like never before, its great! My insurnace went from 700 every 6 months to 1300, but that is only because I went from just liability (sp?) to full coverage. Good luck with it man! BE CAREFUL!

Someone else want that car? I can't afford it my-self and my dad won't pay the extra grand after my trade in. See, my car is paid off by my parents but i'm paying them $200 a month + insurance to pay them off. I'm trying to pay my car off as fast as possible so I can use all the extra money for a nicer car like this Z28.
