Flowmaster Catback?

Well, it is time to get a cat back for my car. I ripped of the stock V6 catback from my conversion. I just discovered that the dumb **** before me hollowed out the cat So now I think my 1st choice of a cat back is out the window (LM). I found a single exit flowmaster on ebay new for $150, to me this seems like a good deal. But I know it won't look as good, but I'm actually going for more sound than looks. Would that catback sound good with a hollowed cat? I want a loud car, but not too loud, like it would be with a hollowed cat and LM, but I want to be heard before they can see me.

Any suggestions on other catbacks? I only have about $260 to spend, so please keep that in mind.

Thanks
Chad

you may want to hear a cutout before you install one, different people will/won't like the sound. Personally I think a cutout makes the car sound like a dump truck

....I have a Flowmaster dual outlet cat back system on my '94 Firebird. No cat, stock exhaust manifolds {soon to be re-placed with headers & a true dual exhaust . IMO it sounds REALLY nice & I do get ALOT of compliments on it. It is also pretty loud {again IMO . When I got mine I sent for a Flowmaster catalog that described the different cat back options available {which I can't now find, but I will keep looking}. Anyway, what I do remember was reading that the single outlet performed better {1 or 2 H.P better} but that the dual outlet sounded better. I went with the dual outlet. Again, I don't remember but I believe they offer 3 different cat backs for our cars. I got mine at PAW {Performance Auto Wherehouse in Chatsworth, California} cuz it is within driving distance for me to pick up.... Bill... p.s enjoy your purchace

I really dont think a cut out is for me either. Since right now I'm just running it right out of the hollowed cat and it is LOUD!!! I started it up in the shop....all i can say is OH MY GOSH!!!

So you guys would say not to get the flowmaster single outlet? I really don't want to either, but my options are limited with $260. I've been looking for a used cat back but not having much luck

What would you recommend for a catback that is relatively cheap?

Thanks
Chad

....I went to the Flowmaster web site but I couldn't pull up anything on cat backs, just mufflers. I don't know if it's me or their web site? Anyway, I'll sell you mine when I do my headers. Let me go check again and see if I can't find that catalog & I'll let you know what model Flowmaster I have. Bill...

Summit sells Flowmaster American thunder catbacks with 3inch pipe for $229. That is dual exit and brand new. I have it on my
LT-1 and it puts out a true musclecar sound.I also have a cutout but i leave it capped until i run at the track(just too loud with headers and high flow cat).A freind of mine has it on a 98 firebird and it sounds pretty good too. Just my 2cents. Goodluck.

If you just want your muffler shop to do the pipe, I'll sell you my flowmaster 3" in/out muffler+plain slash tip for $20+shipping. Might save yourself a few bucks that way.

...I don't think that the one Summit sells for $239 is the 3" dual outlet one. But then I've been wrong plenty of times before Bill...

So would you guys recommend flowmaster? I've read all the post on here about exhaust, and concluded that either you like flowmaster or you dont. They say it doesn't flow the best, . They also say about flowmaster, "Once you've heard one, you've heard them all"

PS--Thanks for all the info!!!
