Question Flooded?

Tell me what you guys think of this. My car sometimes won't start after sitting for a few days. Usually it happens after about 3 days or more of sitting in either the extreme hot or cold. It won't do a thing while i'm cranking it and then when i stop cranking it, the engine tries to turn over. It will sputter a bit and maybe backfire into the intake, but never starts. It acts like it's flooded, yet I wouldn't assume that with fuel injection. If i take off the intake bellows and air out the intake for about 10 minutes it will take a few more cranks to get it started. The only thing I could figure is that maybe i have a leaky set of injectors. The problem is very sparatic in nature. What do you guys think?

check your oil and see if it smells like gas real bad. If it does the inj. could be sticking. Maybe look at the spark plugs to see what it looks like it might have a bad fuel pump and not getting enought fuel and check the battery voltage.. does it crank slow?Hope this helps just shooting out ideas..

When you think it might be flooded, hold the accelerator pedal on the floor when you crank. That will put it in "flood clear mode" and stop the injectors from adding any more fuel.

Thanks funina, those are some good ideas. The car does not crank slow at all. It has a good voltage and is cranking strong.

So theoretically if it doesn't start after flood clear mode then it's not flooding that's my problem right?

Hey funina, love the car man! Great pics.

Using a fuel pressure test gauge and observing the pressure after you shut the car off would help in determining if you had leaky injectors. You problem could even lie elsewhere. You could have a intermittently sticking EGR valve that would cause hard starting.
