Flexplate swap help

What is the easiest way to chang the flexplate on the LT1. I am thinking the transmission needs to come completely out. I don't believe you can unbolt the converter and take it off. Any suggestions?

Re: Flexplate swap help

You can unbolt the torque converter and slide it back enough to spin the motor without engaging the trans, but I don't see how you'd get the flexplate out without pulling the trans back. You shouldn't need to pull it all the way out though, just take the trans to block bolts out and slide it back as far as needed. Why are you replacing it? Upgrading to an SFI or ?

Re: Flexplate swap help

I haven't done one in a Z (I have an M6) but all the ones I have done required removing the transmission with converter and then removing the flexplate. Just remember to remove the converter bolts from the flexplate before removing the transmission so the converter stays with the transmission. I'm sure someone will chime in if I am wrong.
