Flex Plate

Hello GUys,

Currently finishing my build and I have a question about the flex plate.

ordered a new TCI Flexplate internally balanced as my engine is internally balanced.

Flex plate has labels for the internal balance
Box has label for internal balance
But the flex plate has a weight on it

if i spin it on my finger, it doesn't feel neutrally balanced.

Could this flex plate be incorrectly packaged and labeled? Or this weight is necessary to counter balance the converter?

Thanks

Re: Flex Plate

In the case that the weight isn't needed... Can i Just yank it out or do I need to order another Flex Plate?

Re: Flex Plate

All of the late model 1 piece rear main seal 350's are neutral balanced on the front, and external balanced on the rear as delivered from the factory. Only issue here is that you have a 383, and some aftermarket cranks could have been balanced internally front and rear so you need to call your engine builder and have them look up on the build sheet what your rotating assembly was balanced with.

Re: Flex Plate

The engine was balanced internally.. that is NOT the issue

The issue is that I got an "internally" balanced flywheel that looks externally balanced.

The label says its internally balanced, the box says the same thing, but the flywheel HAS a weight like if it were externally balanced. Most of the accurate pics of the internally balanced flex plates do NOT have that weight and most of the externally balanced do. When you spin it you can feel the "unbalance" of the weight.

I am going to yank the weight out of the flywheel and be done with it.

Why wouldn''t you simply call TCI, like mentioned above, and ask them if their flexlate for internally balanced engines have a weight on them? Seems pretty straightforward....and a whole lot easier than pulling the tranny off and replacing the flexplate if you're wrong.

Re: Flex Plate

If the plate has a weight like this one pictured, then you've got the externally balanced flexplate. Pulling the weight off of it and hoping it's balanced properly vs. getting the right one is up to you...
