First time out w/carbed LT1

I took car car to the track this last wednesday (temp 90, humidity through the roof) and ran 12.70's at 107, with a terrible 60 foot time of 1.866 (bad stumble off the line). I shifted at 6200 rpms and launched at 2000 rpms

The car has a stock LT1 engine with a smallish duration/lift cam, hooker long tubes, GMMP intake, 750dp holley, turbo 350 trans, 3000 stahl conv., 3.73 gears and 275/60 drag radials.

As I get the stumble out of the car and further tune it, I think it will go 11.90's what do you think?

It is making enough power to run low 12's in good weather and after some tweaking with the engine and chassis high 11's are doable. Got any pics? Later

Good times for sure, what kinda carb are you running? Double pumper? Buy a jet kit and a couple sized bigger accelerator pumps and get her tuned in a little bit....but the heat and humidity is def a KILLER!!

I do not understand how a tune goes wrong unless for some reason the weather conditions change a whole bunch and your car does not account for it.

Nothing wrong with someone running a carb if they want. No need to turn the thread into a carb vs. FI debate.
With a little more tweaking, I am sure it will go faster.

Excellent advice. Too bad every time someone mentions a "carb", the nasties come out and try and spoil their fun.

I have no problem's if he wanted to run a carb. I just wanted to know why, most guyss I've seen go carb are making SERIOUS power and need that little "extra" from switching that kind of a setup. But for what he's running I couldn't see a reason.

I just wanted to know why that's all.

getting back to the question at hand, that bog is def. hurting you alot. plus you can bet on the hot muggy air robbing you of atleast a few tenth's from a car like this. that 750 is the carb you want. but the rest of the combo is just very mild. is it a single plane or dual plane? is this a drag car built on the cheap, or a cruiser that you also drag race? if a drag car, then gut the crap out of it. what is the size of the cam and is that a 10" stall conv.? and whats the future plans for the car?
if that cam is really small, Id say your 1.8 is pretty decent 60 foot times in that heat. unless the car is already gutted and very light, I dont think you'll get it into the 1.6 sixties or anything. low 12s is very doable in even hot temps once you fix the stumbles and learn the best launch/shift points.
curious, why launching at 2000rpm? to try and cover up the stumbles? I used to think that launching against the footbrake was the best too, but when I bougth my 9.5" stall, the owner told me no, you want to leave from idle, and stab the gas. that will get the best torque multiplication from the stall and it will leave very hard. if you cant get traction, or have a bog doin that, THEN try slowly raising the launch rpm against the footbrake. the higher you raise the rpm, the softer it will leave. but its easier on drivetrain parts, and easier to get traction too.

I really would like to see some pics underneath the hood on your car. Curious to see how much you had to cut away, and what filter your running. I am carbing a LT1, I have been dragging this project out for months. I have been lazy and taking my time because this is the biggest project I have ever done by myself.

Thanks for all the responses, I appreciate them.

To answer some questions:
1) Its a dual plane GMPP intake.
2) Yes, I launched at 2000 to help mask the stumble.
3) I'll get some pics posted
4) I basically cut away just the center portion of the cowl. I dont have any of the wiper stuff in the car. ( I can remove the alternator too)
5) I removed the "extra stuff" from the frontend and removed the heater box (extra gutting is planned)
6) yes, it is a 10" convertor (no its not built for the combo)
7) I run a 14"x4" K&N drop base filter with a little modifications to the filter element.
8) The car is a street/strip piece, I don't plan on driving it much but I want it to be respectable at the track.

I discovered on my last pass that I didn't have my foot all the way to the floor due to the floor mat stopping my foot travel.
